An important first step
Yesterday, the St. Paul City Council took a powerful step toward solutions that serve and support—rather than neglect and punish—people experiencing homelessness by voting 6-0 in support of Resolution 26-1765, “Supporting a Coordinated Response to Unsheltered Homelessness.“
Single adult homelessness and family homelessness are inextricably linked; in fact, experiencing homelessness as a child is the largest predictor of experiencing homelessness as an adult. Furthermore, homelessness, no matter whether experienced by a family, single adult, or child, results from systemic disparities, and we support all efforts to address it.
People Serving People looks forward to supporting this work as part of our vision to ensure that every family has what they need. Access to safe, dignified, low-barrier shelter and comprehensive support services is important for each and every person experiencing homelessness, no matter where they live.
We want to thank our partners in this work, including Avivo, Interfaith Action, Open Hands Midway, and Representative Finke.
Congratulations and thank you, St. Paul City Council, for this impactful first step toward ensuring everyone has a safe, dignified place to call home.
