Join our mission

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with People Serving People! It takes a village of volunteers and neighbors like you to care for our families. We offer numerous opportunities for both individuals and groups to support the work of People Serving People and make a meaningful difference in the lives of parents and children experiencing homelessness.

Volunteers make all the difference

Explore the many volunteer opportunities available at People Serving People’s three locations.

To volunteer with us, you must be at least 13 years old. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities for children under 13, please refer to our friends at Doing Good Together (DGT) and subscribe to their monthly newsletter. DGT compiles lists of family-friendly volunteer opportunities throughout the Twin Cities and the surrounding suburbs.

Volunteers needed for cultural celebration

Help us educate and entertain families

People Serving People is looking for volunteers to support our American Indian Heritage Celebration. This event honors American Indian heritage through informative and uplifting performances and activities. Volunteers will assist staff and vendors by running interactive booths, serving food, and assisting with event setup and teardown. 

American Indian Heritage Celebration

  • Date: Thursday, May 21, 2026
  • Location: Downtown Shelter Parking Lot
  • 1st Shift – 2:45 to 5 p.m. | 6 volunteers needed
  • 2nd Shift – 5 to 7:15 p.m. | 6 volunteers needed

Support our Family Fun event

Spread joy through volunteering

Volunteer to help People Serving People throw a party for the kids in our Early Childhood Development Program. This will be a lively event that brings together the families of children who are enrolled in classes at our Downtown Shelter and Early Learning Center. There will be a DJ, face painting, crafts, and more. Volunteers will facilitate a variety of fun activities and work with staff to set up and tear down equipment

  • Time: 3 to 6 p.m. | 15-20 volunteers needed
