People Serving People Stands with All Minnesotans Demanding Justice for Renee Good

People Serving People denounces the occupation of Minnesota and Minneapolis by federal ICE agents and Operation Metro Surge. We support our immigrant neighbors, communities of color, observers, and protestors who are subject to the abuses of power and intentional infliction of trauma, terror, and violence. There is no justification for these gross abuses of authority.

Yesterday, an ICE official murdered Renee Nicole Good during an operation in Minneapolis. ICE’s abuse of power and campaign to terrorize our community didn’t stop there. The children staying in our shelters are not in school today because Minneapolis Public Schools had to cancel classes because ICE agents also attacked educators outside Roosevelt High School. They terrorized all when they broke a car window to drag an educator out of her car. ICE also attempted to access Higher Ground, a shelter for single adults experiencing homelessness in Minneapolis. We know the unlawful conduct didn’t stop there and will likely continue.

To Renee’s daughter, family, and friends, we mourn with you. We carry the weight of our sadness, fear, and anger, holding fast to our deep belief in our community’s resolve to stand strong. We will lean into our sorrow, channel our righteous anger, and embrace the power of community.

We also affirm what our community stands for: caring for our most vulnerable neighbors, prioritizing connection over division, and collective dignity over hate. We demand justice and will stand with one another.

Minnesotans deeply value being good neighbors. Let’s lean into our values and show up for one another. Let’s truly embrace what it means to be a just community. We all live here together, whether we’re housed or unhoused. No matter our race or ethnicity. Get to know your neighbors. Lend a hand when they need one.

Speak up when you see injustice.
