EDUCATION
Course work or previous experience in Human Services, Social Work, Sociology, or related fields preferred.
TYPE OF POSITION
Unpaid Internship; We are unable to offer MSW supervision
HOURS
10 hours per week/6 months; Flexible schedule Monday through Friday between 9am-5:30pm
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Advocacy Intern will have the opportunity to interact with Guests staying at People Serving People in a number of ways including, but not limited to; monitoring the Technology Resource Center, facilitating a Guest group session, distributing Guests supplies, and learning about and connecting Guests to resources in the building and community.

Assist Guests as needed while in the Technology Resource Center:
Offer technical support to Guests:
Providing support to Guests in housing and job searches
Connecting Guests to resources in the community and onsite
Learn from Advocacy team:
Shadow team member/Guest interactions
Debrief with supervisor and Advocate team after interactions with Guests
Learn about community resources and make referrals
Understand the homeless response system for families in Hennepin County
Facilitate support and educational groups for Guests
Assist with special events (vision screenings, family photos, etc.)
Administrative Duties:
Create and update resource handouts
Organize and keep inventory for clothing closet and other material items
Make orientation packets
Learn how to document and case note properly
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None
COMPUTER SKILLS
Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft and Apple applications
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Self-motivated
Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task
Proficient using Apple Mac Minis
Pass a background check prior to start date
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the intern is regularly required to talk or hear. The intern is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The intern is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell. The early childhood development intern must lift and/or move 70 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
