Victor was not shaken by the fact that his family was experiencing homelessness. As far as he was concerned, his place of residence took a back seat to his real aspiration: to be a super hero. In the children's activities group offered at People Serving People, Victor loved making masks that he could use in his "secret life" as a super hero.
The Children's Activity Coordinator at People Serving People took note of Victor's interests, and staff and volunteers helped Victor to overcome a couple of other behavioral issues through play and healthy social interactions. "At first, Victor had some issues with being respectful to other kids when he first started coming to activities. After a few times attending though, he understood that it was not allowed to call people names or touch other people's art work without permission. He was great to have in activities!"
Victor and his family found an affordable place to stay and left People Serving People a couple weeks ago. Staff here will miss his smile and energy, but are happy to know that the world is safer now with a super hero walking amongst us.
With financial support from the community, we are able to employ experienced staff members and provide educational and fun activities to help children to forget about homelessness, and instead enjoy being kids. Homelessness can be a traumatic experience for anyone at any age, but for children - we (at People Serving People) have the unique opportunity to step in and provide support to encourage children's resiliency. School performance, behavior with family members, and peer interactions improve with the help of our Children's Services at People Serving People. Please support this great cause!
