Chefs for Change with Chef Nate Lane from Thyme to Entertain For the past ten years, Nate Lane has been a chef at some of the top restaurants in the Twin Cities including Table of Contents, Red Fish Blue and Zeno Cafe. Nate has also cooked in restaurants in New York and Chicago and brings concepts from all over the country to executing spectacular events here in the Twin Cities. He currently owns and operates a catering and special events business, Thyme to Entertain.

Home Game to End Homelessness On July 20, 2007, People Serving People (PSP) hosted its fourth annual Home Game to End Homelessness. The event raised over $25,000 to benefit the shelter, and was sponsored by The Minnesota Twins, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and the Star Tribune.

Before the game, over 600 Twins fans attended a gourmet barbecue featuring carnival games and live music from Tim Mahoney. At the event, guests enjoyed the opportunity to bid in a twins-themed silent auction and get baseballs autographed by Twins legend Tony Oliva and a surprise visit by 1991 World Series Champion - Scot Leuis.

The pre-game barbecue prepared by the American Culinary Federation - Minneapolis was made possible by sponsors: Bond & Devick Financial Network, Coordinated Business Systems and eMall at Walden U.

Welcome Home Gala 2007 Exceeds Fundraising Goal People Serving People held its annual Welcome Home Gala at the Doubletree Hotel on Saturday, November 17th, 2007. Master of Ceremonies Jason DeRusha, WCCO TV reporter, hosted the live auction and program. The evening began with cocktails, hors d'ouvres and a silent and live auction. The event was followed by dinner and music provided by the Dolce Wind Quintet.

The rousing live auction put us over the top to raise 20% more than the year before, for unique items like: Dinner for six at Oceanaire, sharing the "air" with Kevyn Burger during her show on, a Door County Weekend Retreat for two, dinner with Matt Birk from the MN Vikings at his restaurant Matty B's, a private party in the Porter & Frye's Kimball Room, a 2-night stay at the Hotel IVY’s Presidential Suite, and lunch for two with Ron Schara & Raven.

Throughout the event, guests were able to visit the Fund-A-Need display table and fund specific items or events for PSP children and families.

The 2006 Community Partnership Awards were presented to:
Sheltering Arms Foundation - A long-time partner of People Serving People, Sheltering Arms Foundation granted $15,000 to fund PSP's Collaborative Tutoring Initiative. The program benefits students staying at PSP in grades K-12 offering one-on-one tutoring during the week. Shelter Arms donations have made them a key partner in not only the success of the Collaborative Tutoring Initiative, but also in the academic achievement attained by students who participate in the program while living at PSP. Sheltering Arms Foundation stands by its mission to enhance the lives of children and help them reach their full potential through education.

Otto Bremer - Continuing their support from 2004, when the Otto Bremer Foundation funded PSP's Culinary Arts Training Program, two years later they awarded PSP a $30,000 grant to fund the organizations newest job skills course - the Facilities Training Program. The grant helps individuals learn basic maintenance skills, earn their boilers certificate and give graduates of the program the opportunity to have livable wage jobs. The dedication of Otto Bremer Foundation to PSP is commendable and the commitment to educate adults for job skills training is a stepping-stone to success in PSP’s mission to end the homeless epidemic.

Cummins Foundation and the Cummins Power Generation, LLC - The Cummins Foundation and the Cummins Power Generation Corporation have both played an essential role in helping PSP to carry out its mission. The Twin Cities Cummins Power Generation, LLC has done a variety of activities ranging from holding a book drive for the PSP library to providing individual and corporate monetary donations, and volunteering for meal service nearly every week. Cummins employees spent more than 500 hours in the cafeteria in 2007 serving meals. Cummins Power Generation Corporation has also been instrumental in participating in Shelter Chefs Catering with the Culinary Arts Training Program students and the many Chefs for Change dinner demonstrations, held in the PSP kitchen. The Foundation plays a large role in financially assisting the two training programs. The Cummins Foundation and the Cummins Power Generation Corporation have been a tremendous help in the past year and PSP looks forward to this partnership in the years to come.

Welcome Home Gala with Guest Emcee Jason DeRusha More than 275 people attended the seventh annual Welcome Home Gala on Friday, November 10 at the Doubletree Hotel, St. Louis Park. Guests divulged in horduvres and cocktails as the silent auction room buzzed with excitement. The group joined together in the Park Place Ballroom for a delicious dessert and coffee presentation.

Faduma Hashi, former Kitchen Training Program student and owner of the Starlight Cafe, made the desserts. People Serving People also celebrated their 2005 Community Partnership Award Recipient that included Piper Jaffray, Target Foundation, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Star Tribune Foundation and Ameriprise Financial.

After the presentation and program, Gala-Goers listened to the delightful sounds of a capella music sensation, The Blenders. The evening was a success as People Serving People raised more than $35,000 for programs and services.

Chefs for Change On October 16, 2006 People Serving People hosted an intimate evening with Mission American Kitchen and Bar with Sous Chef Chi Chan. Nearly 40 people attended the evening. The event was hosted by Sharon Bredeson.

Fourth Annual Brokerage Bash On Monday, September 18, the Fourth Annual Brokerage Bash was held at the Fineline Music Cafe. This year nine local brokerage firms from the Twin Cities came together to raise over $12,000 for the children and families at People Serving People.

Home Game to End Homelessness On July 28, 2006 People Serving People raised nearly $25,000 at the Third Annual Home Game the End Homelessness. People Serving People teamed with the Minnesota Twins, Star Tribune, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Bond and Devick Financial Network and Coordinated Business Systems to put on a Pre-Game Tailgate Party followed by an exciting ballgame as the Minnesota Twins took on the Detroit Tigers.

Tickets to the Twins game were $18, with 100 percent of the proceeds directly benefiting People Serving People. Supporters gathered at the Metrodome Picnic Pavilion and enjoyed a gourmet barbecue catered by the American Culinary Federation. At the Tailgate Party, fans participated in carnival games and a silent auction. Twins great Tony Oliva stopped by to sign autographs and support this important cause. Party guests also enjoyed the music of The Executive Branch and Twin Cities' favorite, Tim Mahoney!

Third Annual Brokerage Bash On October 24, 2005 People Serving People hosted an intimate evening with Mission American Kitchen and Bar - Executive Sous Chef, Mike Rakun.

"Excellent food, wonderful company and a great way to support a phenomenal organization." Sharon Bredeson, Chefs for Change host and President of Staff Plus.

During the evening guests had the chance to feast on Roasted Grape Salad as Chef Rakun demonstrated how to cook Steam Fried Salmon. Rakun topped off the night with Chocolate Lava Cake, a crowd pleaser.

On July 15, 2005 People Serving People raised nearly $20,000 at the second annual Home Game for the Homeless. People Serving People teamed with the Minnesota Twins, Star Tribune, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and the Navarre Corporation to put on a pre-game party celebration.

Tickets to the Twins game were $17, with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to People Serving People. Supporters gathered at the Metrodome Picnic Pavilion and enjoyed hot dogs, chips, fruit and cookies. During the pre-game party fans had the chance to sing and dance with The Resistors and bid on silent auction items.
