Collaborative Programs
At Home Group
The At Home Group is a 501 3 (c) that provides funding for employment related issues, such as transportation with the distribution of Bus Passes and for entrepreneurial ventures by people living in poverty.
Catholic League of Women's "First Impressions"
Putting your best foot forward during an employment interview is the goal of the Catholic League of Women. Female residents are given a business suit and have their hair done and makeup applied by a professional before going out on their first interview.
Freeport West Homeless Youth Initiative
Freeport West conducts a Children's Group with children aged eight to eleven years of age focusing on homelessness as it relates to children as expressed by children. The group meets weekly and does an arts or craft project during the conversations. A Social Worker from Freeport West facilitates this group. Freeport West also has a children's Social Worker on-site Monday through Thursdays.
College of St. Catherine Community Health & Physical Therapy Program
During the school year, a select group of nursing students from the Community Health Discipline and their instructor, an expert on issues of homelessness and health, along with the class, seek out families and work with them in a holistic manner. Faculty and Masters Level students meet with permanent supportive housing and emergency housing families twice each week and use a holistic "hands-on" approach with training and learning.
Rapid Exit: Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program
This Hennepin County program consists of various agencies. Rapid Exit assists clients who meet established guidelines and helps them locate permanent housing. People Serving People guests are screened, then assigned a Rapid Exit Advocate. The Rapid Exit Advocate works with our guests during their stay.
Free Arts Program: Weekly Mentorship Program
The weekly Mentorship Program is offered from September to May on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Volunteers, coordinated through Free Arts Minnesota, provide one hour of creative art activities to a specific group of children. Volunteers develop projects for children which incorporate drawing, painting, dance, drama, sculpture and photography. The program's objectives are to offer children an opportunity to develop healthy relationships with adults, and increase their sense of self-worth and learn new ways to communicate through participation in the arts. The objective with this program is to maintain a consistent relationship between volunteers and children.
Girl Scouts
People Serving People in partnership with the Girl Scout Council of Greater Minneapolis provides a weekly Girl Scout meeting for girl's ages 6-12 years old.
Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery
An Advocate from the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery is on-site every Thursday afternoon. The Advocate provides residents with information and instructions on the use of their crisis nursery when the parent is in a crisis situation, and unable to safely care for their child/children. If the child is under seven years old they stay off-site at the crisis nursery for three days while their parents stabilize.
HealthChoices
HealthChoices is a Resource, Inc. program, working with Minnesota Family Investment Program guests assisted by the Health Maintenance Program, who have barriers to gaining or keeping employment. The HealthChoices staff are onsite Wednesday mornings.
Hennepin County Red Door Access Unit
Access Unit social workers are scheduled twice weekly at the shelter, and focus on single residents – but assist any quest requesting help. Issues addressed are chemical health, mental health, disabilities, and housing. The goals of the Access Unit are to provide emergency services to those in need; to provide links to various public and private programs such as financial assistance, case management, housing assistance, and options based on an individual's impairments and abilities. The Hennepin County Access Social Workers are at PSP on Monday afternoons.
Hennepin County Child & Teen Checkups
Hennepin County Child & Teen Checkups focus on dispensing information about the health and dental needs. Information includes the location of clinics that specifically provide. Staff are on-site the third Wednesday of the month.
Hennepin County Health Care for the Homeless: Medical Clinic
The Medical Clinic is staffed by Public Health Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, a licensed Social Worker, Medical Assistants and Resident Physicians. The Medical Clinic is open Monday through Friday mornings and on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
The Maternal Child Health nurse is in the Medical Clinic on Mondays through Fridays. They assess women for immediate complications with pregnancy and connect them to a primary prenatal care provider, insurance plans, eligibility, and make arrangement of appointments with that provider. The Maternal Health Nurse provides basic prenatal education and assists in resources for baby items, parenting classes, and is available long-term for any questions or concerns client may have.
An adult mental health social worker is scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays mornings.
HOMELine Tenant Training
HOME Line is an advocacy group of attorneys specializing in Landlord/Tenant law. Attorneys are on-site the third Wednesday of each month. A 1-hour course is presented to guests .The purpose of this training is to advise those with poor rental history on the tenant/landlord laws in the state of Minnesota.
HousingLink
HousingLink assists residents in locating affordable, suitable, low-income housing. A weekly, up-to-date report is received by PSP via the Internet which is issued to residents to use in their housing search. In development at this time, is the "Best Practices - Housing Concepts" program, created and designed by the HousingLink to work specifically with an individual.
Minneapolis Public School Program
Minneapolis Public Schools has an office on-site, with three staff guiding shelter parents in the registration of their children in grades K through 12, and in scheduling transportation from People Serving People both to and from school. School supplies are provided for each student, as well as follow up after the family moves out of the shelter into permanent housing.
Play and Learn (ECFE/Crisis Nursery)
Play and Learn is an on-site weekly early childhood program that joins PSP, the Early Childhood and Family Education (ECFE) from the Minneapolis Public Schools, and Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery. Parents and their children birth to five years old are personally invited to attend each session. The first part of the session consists of parent/child playgroups where families are provided with art projects and circle games to solidify the parent/child relationship. During the second half of the session, PSP and ECFE staff provides childcare while parents attend a support group with the Crisis Nursery. After this, family pictures are taken to commemorate the evening.
Read-to-Me
The Read-to-Me program is run on-site in collaboration with the Minneapolis Public Library. Volunteers are scheduled twice a week to read to children ages 3-5 participating in the People Serving People Preschool Program. Using materials provided by the library, each volunteer spends a half-hour with the children reading books, singing songs, and presenting finger puppet plays. This program provides children with an opportunity to express themselves through the stories and songs. It also is a way to introduce books to preschool age children and get them excited about reading.
348-TOTS
This is the central intake referral source for early intervention services for children ages 0-3 in Minneapolis. They Provides early childhood screening and intervention assistance to families with children who have or may be at risk for developmental delays or disabilities. Part of an interagency collaborative with the Minneapolis Public Schools, the Minneapolis Department of Health and Family Services, the Hennepin County Children and Family Services and Community Health Departments. 348-TOTS work on-site Tuesday mornings.
Twin Cities Community Voice Mail
TCCVM offers guests on-site voice mail service, connecting them to the community to help find jobs, housing, health care, and more. Twin Cities Community Voice Mail is part of a national and statewide program. People Serving People has been recognized by TCCVM as enrolling more clients with Twin Cities Community Voice Mail than any other agency in the country.
Mt. Zion and PSP Collaborative: Youth For Change
The partnership between Mount Zion's Youth Group (Noar Tzion) and People Serving People provides opportunities for 4-6th graders from both organizations to learn community-building life-skills, heighten their understanding of people from backgrounds different from their own, and build self-esteem through real-life experiences. Each youth interaction - whether a field trip or other program - will serve as an educational and fun experience for all parties involved including youth, junior staff (9-12th graders), staff, and parents/guardians. Mt. Zion is on-site one Sunday each month.
